Finding the formation that best suits a squad of just 18 players can be tricky business. Within the basic four categories of player (goalkeeper, defender, midfielder and attacker) there are subdivisions.
Left-sided | Central | Right-sided | |
---|---|---|---|
Goalkeepers | GK - Goalkeeper | ||
Defenders | LB - Left Back | CB - Centre Back | RB - Right Back |
LWB - Left Wing Back | RWB - Right Wing Back | ||
Midfielders | LM - Left Midfielder | CDM - Central Defensive Midfielder | RM - Right Midfielder |
LW - Left Winger | CM - Central Midfielder | RW - Right Winger | |
CAM - Central Attacking Midfielder | |||
Attackers | LWF - Left Wing Forward | CF - Centre Forward | RWF - Right Wing Forward |
Every player has a preferred position and up to two secondary positions. Players are most effective when played in their preferred positions and least effective when played in any position that is not listed on their Player Card. Additionally, a player’s morale is likely to decrease if played out of position, further affecting their form.
Careful analysis of your Player Cards will allow you to see a ‘big picture’ of the options you have available.
